Full list of content types

Social Care Online search results can include a range of publications and resources, such as reports, journal articles, online resources (practice guides, research briefings and training tools) and links to social care websites, events and research projects. In the case of Events, and Research Register records, details are submitted to the site by users.

Full Text

Where possible a link is provided to the full text, but as this is not always available, particularly in the case of journal articles, all records have an abstract. Selected research studies, such as systematic reviews also have extended abstracts.

Extended abstracts

This type of abstract gives more detail about the reference and is structured using the headings: summary, method, contents, conclusion(s) and references; and in the case of systematic reviews additional information includes: context, authors' conclusions and implications for policy and practice.

More about the Athens project

Full Text via Athens

Staff and students in Higher Education and the NHS are able to obtain a resource called the ‘Athens’ password. This gives access to a wide range of full text resources, including full text journal articles and books and subscription only databases. SCIE is piloting a project to facilitate equal access to these resources for social care and Social Care Online records are being tagged if they are available via Athens. For more information about the project, and to find whether you are eligible for a password click here

Record details

Search results are initially presented as a summary record (typically Author, Title, Publisher or Reference). Click on the Title to view the full record. The additional information will always include an Abstract. These fields may vary depending on the type of publication or resource your search results have found.
